MSC FLI’S SUBCOMMITTEES

MSC FLI is comprised of 6 subcommittees: Latitude, Longitude, Public Relations, LEAD, Development, and Internal Programming. Even though members can only be in one subcommittee, all subcommittees play a vital role in the planning and production of our events. Check out all our subcommittees below!

Latitude

Latitude is one of the two programming subcommittees in MSC FLI. This subcommittee plans our yearly fall service event, Students Helping Aid Refugees through Education and Service, or SHARES for short! Through the SHARES program, Latitude is able to involve the TAMU community in aiding the Las Americas Newcomer School for refugees in Houston, Tx. In addition, the freshmen members get the opportunity to develop their communication, programming, and leadership skills by planning service events throughout the year.

Longitude

Longitude is one of two programming subcommittees in MSC FLI. We typically plan two programs a year- one in the spring and one in the fall. The primary goal is to promote cultural diversity and international awareness. Every year, this subcommittee plans one of the staple programs of our organization, Campus Cultural Challenge (CCC)! Longitude will also be hosting one of our previous programs, Cooking Around the World, for the second time this year. Through planning programs, freshmen are able to develop their leadership abilities, flexibility, creative thinking, and communication skills within this subcommittee.

Check out Current programs for more information on Longitude’s annual program – Campus Cultural Challenge!

Lead

The LEAD subcommittee focuses on freshman development by organizing and running a weekly general committee meeting (GCM). At GCMs, members of this subcommittee, as well as guest speakers, present topics relating to international awareness, leadership skills, and professional development. These meetings are an opportunity for the whole committee to get to know each other while also learning more about international topics of interest. Freshmen in LEAD are heavily involved in the planning process while also getting experience leading meetings and practicing public speaking skills.

Freshmen in LEAD get to be a part of the planning process. They also get to actually lead the meetings and develop their public speaking skills.

Public Relations

The Public Relations subcommittee is the “face of FLI”. They are in charge of creating and distributing all of MSC FLI’s promotional material. This includes conceptualizing marketing campaigns for the programs, organizing fundraising events to raise awareness of the organization’s efforts, and designing apparel items to spread the organization’s name.

Freshmen learn how to effectively market programs, develop their creativity through design, and invent/implement new ways to promote our ideas and programs.

Development

As the development committee we help develop our goals, hence the name. We are in charge of making sure we have the funds to host all fabulous events MSC FLI has! We can be seen as the backbone of MSC FLI as a lot of our work is done behind the scenes. We support all events with fundraising, budgeting and most importantly networking!

Freshmen in Development will gain intrapersonal skills such as public speaking, record keeping, and creative thinking. They also get to work on skills such as public speaking, professional writing, and networking skills.

Internal Programming

Internal Programming is MSC FLI’s newest subcommittee.  They are in charge of making sure everyone finds their home in MSC FLI through social events.  IP is also in charge of coordinating the FLEET family system and the big-little program within FLI.  Freshmen in IP will be able to utilize and grow their creativity, event planning skills, and time management skills by being a part of an event from start to finish.

Members of this subcommittee will gain experience in planning events, practice their communication skills, and put their creativity to work when designing new hangouts and socials.
